Summer in Syracuse is short, sweet, and absolutely worth making the most of. Whether you're filling window boxes with color, planting a backyard vegetable garden, or finally tackling that landscaping project you've been putting off, the right plants make all the difference. And finding the right garden center in Syracuse NY makes everything else easier.

At Anthony DeMarco & Sons, we've been that resource for Syracuse-area homeowners since 1972. Family-owned, locally operated, and stocked with the largest plant variety in Central New York, we're the stop that serious gardeners make first.

Why Skip the Big Box and Visit a Real Garden Center in Syracuse NY

There's nothing wrong with grabbing potting soil at the hardware store. But when it comes to live plants (annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, vegetables) where they come from and how they've been cared for matters enormously.

At DeMarco & Sons, approximately 95% of our plants are grown right on-site. Plants grown locally are acclimated to our climate, our soil, and our frost calendar. They simply perform better.

Our staff backs that up with real expertise. We know what grows in Onondaga County. We know which perennials survive our winters, which vegetables thrive in our summers, and how to help you avoid the most common planting mistakes Syracuse-area gardeners make. When you visit a our garden center in Elbridge NY, that kind of knowledge comes with the purchase. Most of our customers tell us they wish they'd discovered us sooner!

Summer Planting Tips for the Syracuse Area

A few things worth knowing before you dig in this season:

Timing still matters in summer. If you're planting in June or July, do it in the early morning or evening to reduce transplant stress. Midday planting in the heat is hard on new plants.

Water deeply, not daily. Deep, infrequent watering builds strong root systems. When the summer heat hits in CNY, water thoroughly two to three times a week rather than a little every day, your plants will be stronger for it.

Don't skip the soil prep. CNY soils can run heavy with clay. Working a little compost into the planting hole makes a significant difference in how quickly plants establish and how well they drain through the season.

Sun exposure matters more than most people think. A plant that wants full sun won't thrive in partial shade, no matter how well you water it. Our staff can walk you through what works where before you commit to anything.
